Poodles DO NOT shed! Many people who are allergic to dogs have no problem with poodles!
Poodles are highly intelligent and have been used as circus dogs because they are so easy to train! They love to entertain and please their owners.
Poodles usually get their curly hair (poodle coat) when they are around 8 months old. Prior to getting their poodle coat, their hair is usually fluffy and wavy.
Poodles do require grooming on a regular basis.
Poodles make excellent watch dogs!
Toy Poodles make wonderful family pets. I have 4 daughters that are between the ages of 6 and 11 and my toy poodles love playing with them. However, the very small teacup poodles are sometimes best in an adult home because of their small delicate size.
Poodles are recognized in 3 sizes. The standard poodle, which is the biggest of all the poodles and stands over 15 inches tall. Next is the miniature poodle, which is between 10 inches and 15 inches tall. Last is the Toy Poodle, which is under 10 inches tall. The height is measured from the highest point of the shoulders. You may also see people advertise Teacup size poodles, which are the very small poodles. AKC does not recognize this size at this time.
In addition to poodles coming in different sizes, they also come in a variety of colors. Here are some of the colors that poodles come in: black, blue, gray, silver, cream, white, red, apricot and the popular parti poodle that has 2 or more colors.
